The Patient Services Department serves as a bridge between the patient and a healthcare organization. Its mission is to assess patient needs and expectations, to act as patient advocates with care, empathy, dignity and respect, and to enhance the quality of service in a culturally-sensitive manner, encouraging collaboration between departments and stimulating a positive environment.

Q: What’s special about being born in the Year of the Ram?

A: Well everything, of course! The zodiac says that Rams (or Sheep) are receptive, gentle, and compassionate, but we can do anything we put our minds to. I didn’t think a lot about my sign before I came to China many years ago, but with the Year of the Ram coming soon, I can’t wait to meet all the new lamb babies that we will welcome into the world at our hospitals around the country.
Q: What is your biggest challenge and biggest accomplishments?

A: As Patient Services Director and working at United Family Healthcare for 10 years, my biggest challenge is to adapt our multicultural hospital setting to meet all the complex needs of our patients, who come from every corner of the globe.

My biggest accomplishments? Waking up every morning with the purpose of making sure our patients have the best experience in our hospital, are well taken care of, and leaving happy and healthy. In addition, leading an amazing team of very talented, caring people that foster inspiration.

Q: What do you think is in store for United Family Healthcare in the Year of the Ram?

A: Exciting new growth across China! New hospitals and new clinics. New doctors and nurses joining our fantastic network. Better processes for our patients, and improvements across the board. In general, the best will get even better!

Q: How can Rams be successful?

A: For me, I always do my best and strive to make things at least 1% better than what they were the day before. Be passionate and persistent, but also be compassionate. Care about other people. You can make someone’s day just with one small act of kindness.

Q: What is some health advice for expecting Ram mothers and their new Ram babies?

A: This is a wonderful year to have a baby, and we hope that you will join our United Family in the Year of the Ram. Eat lots of greens and healthy vegetables – we were born under the Ram Zodiac, after all!

Miriam is originally from Bolivia. She holds a BA in International Hospitality Management from Switzerland and a MBA in Leadership from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. Miriam has over 15 years of experience in customer service, training, and analysis of customer needs and wants in multicultural settings. Miriam joined Beijing United Family Hospital and Clinics in 2004 and was awarded the Chindex Corporate Spirit Award in 2008 for her ongoing dedication to her work and for her role in inspiring others to achieve a high level of performance in the workplace.
